BKFC comes with a package of promises to the fight world including excitement, branding, superstars, super fights and also the perfect structure to finally settle the score between MMA fighters and Boxers. That’s a big deal especially for those who are longtime fans of combat sports, they understand the ‘beef’ between MMA fighters and Boxers.
Ever since MMA took off and established itself as one of the greatest sports in the world, boxers and mma fighters began to beef outside the ring calling each other out to prove who is the better fighter; however, difficulty to agree upon fight rules was the main impediment to make these historic clashes happen. MMA fighters argued that boxers had an advantage in the ring with big gloves on and only punching allowed. Boxers on the other hand argued that mma fighters had a huge advantage inside the cage being able to use kicks, elbows, take-downs and submissions. Both ends had good arguments but in the end this didn’t stop all fights between mixed martial artists and boxers from actually happening. In 2010 UFC legend Randy Couture took on heavyweight boxing legend James Toney inside the UFC octagon - a fight in which I attended at TD Garden in Boston. Things couldn't have gone more as expected; Couture kept his distance for a minute, shot for a su
ccessful takedown, grinded out Toney who displayed a poor ground game. Toney was finished with a submission in only 3 minutes, proving that boxers had no place inside the Octagon. UFC superstar Conor McGregor migrated over to the boxing ring to fight Floyd Mayweather, one of the greatest boxers of all time for a super money fight. Also as expected, McGregor held his own for some rounds but was eventually finished in the later rounds by the much superior boxer in Mayweather. Both these fights are good examples of why more of these bouts didn’t happen more often; results were as expected and the advantage of one fighter over another was far superior. This is when BKFC comes in with rules structured to settle the score once and for all!
BKFC rules evens out all the advantages one fighter might have over the other, making the circular ring the perfect stage for these guys to settle their ‘beef’. MMA fighters can no longer argue that boxers have the glove or rules advantage. Boxers can no longer argue that mma fighters have the advantage to kick, take down and submit. Take away the boxing rules, the squared ring, and take away the gloves, now you’ve got something very close to a street fight and in a street fight nobody is a favorite. But, it could still be arguable that MMA fighters have a slight advantage, afterall, Vale Tudo fighting is the roots of MMA and that’s the closest we have seen to street fighting. However, Bare Knuckle Fighting is pretty much Boxing minus gloves and clinching, making it a strong argument that the Boxers have a slight advantage.
At the end of the day nobody has an advantage over anybody in a Bare Knuckle fight under BKFC rules. I personally don’t see either Boxer or MMA fighters complaining about that matter. This is extremely exciting because now big names from both sports finally have a platform to square things out and prove who is better when new ‘beef’ arises.
