BKFC 14 Fight Results / Analysis

Kenmon Evans vs Sedric Johnson

An exciting first bout of the night Kenmon Evans faced Sedric Johnson at 175lbs. Evans coming off a K.O win at BKFC 12 looked very confident from the start. Trying to use his boxing versus the debuter Johson who came in looking for power punches, it took Evans only a minute into the first round to figure out his distance and deliver three very effective jabs, knocking Johnson down on the third. It was a vicious right hook to the temple that rocked Johson who tried to stay up but was not able to as Evans finished him and earned a TKO victory. It is the second opponent Evans sends to the grave in less than 3 months, is he a contender for the vacant 175lbs belt? Who should Evans fight next ?

Alan Arzeno vs Fred Pierce

Fred Pierce returned to BKFC 14 after earning a first round KO at BKFC 13 in Salina, KS but was very unfortunate to injure his knee right at the start of the bout. Alan Arzeno looked better from the start, he was the aggressor and connected a few punches. It was too soon into the fight that Pierce injured his knee and was unable to continue. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see Arzeno back in the ring soon.

Lorenzo Hunt vs Davian Green

Hunt is a scary guy who hits hard! After earning a brutal KO W at BKFC 12 he returned into the squared circle hungry for more, but versus a much tougher opponent in Davian Green. Green looked really good, in my opinion he was actually winning the round, connecting the better shots and even cutting Hunt open. However, it was a short right hook from Hunt that BROKE Green’s jaw. Although Green was still in the fight and not rocked from the punch, he was unable to continue. Lorenzo Hunt is making noise at the 195/205lbs weight class and I would like to see him fight Uly Diaz next to establish who is the #1.

Eddie Hoch vs Jeff Chiffens

That was nothing like I have even seen before! Watching this fight again over the BKFC app just does not do you justice, you had to be there to see the barrage of punches thrown by Eddie Hoch in this fight. Hoch literally kept throwing punches through the entire first round, he did eat some counters by Chiffens but they were not enough to stun Hoch or make him respect Chiffens’ power and back away from the aggression. Chiffens had poor movement off the ropes and didn’t clinch or hold on to Hoch to slow down the punches, instead Chiffens stood against the ropes taking hundreds of punches and hoping to get a K.O counterpunch. It just was not going to happen; Hoch looked confident and composed, it was just a matter of time before the ref stopped the fight, declaring Hoch the winner. I would like to see Hoch back in there soon versus a more technical opponent and can’t help but wonder if he will use this strategy on his next fights. I hope so!

Jarod Grant vs Christopher Johnson

Great fight at 135lbs here! Both fighters came in looking well prepared and focused. Johnson looking for his first win at BKFC was the aggressor, Grant on the other hand took things a bit slower, almost like he knew the right time to finish. Johnson kept the short distance, worked the clinch and rocked Kid Gotti Grant with an uppercut sending him straight to the mat. Grant got right back up and didn't look stunned from the knockdown, instead he continued to fight at the same pace and didn’t change the strategy. It was really a matter of seconds for things to turn around when Grant viciously unleashed a combination of punches also rocking Johnson to the mat. Unlike Grant, Johnson had a hard time getting back up - he was badly hurt, his corner knew he was hurt at the end of the first round. The second round started and Grant knew this time it was not time to take things slow, he knew Johnson was hurt so he wasted no time and attacked Johnson who had not much to do but defend himself until his corner threw the towel. Grant is the youngest fighter to ever fight at BKFC and he wants to be the youngest champion. The 135lbs division in my opinion is the most competitive weight class at the moment and it will be a difficult task for Kid Gotti to reach his goal of becoming champion!

Uly Diaz vs Donelei Benedetto

Simply WOW! Fastest knockout in the history of combat sports by Uly Diaz over Donelei Benedetto. There is not much to say about the fight itself - Diaz threw a right overhand less than one second into the fight knocking Benedetto out cold! Ref stopped the fight at 3 second of the first round! Benedetto just did not look ready for the intensity Diaz brought into the ring. He had both hands down and was standing square as they toed the line. Just what Diaz wanted to put on the highlight of the night. Uly Diaz respectfully called out Thiago Alves for a title fight, president David Feldman seems to like the idea and so does Alves himself. I personally would like to see Diaz face Lorenzo Hunt next before fighting Alves.

Uly Diaz knocks out Donelei Benedetto

Francesco Ricchi vs Noah Cutter

Another amazing fight and also another comeback. Potentially fight of the night both of these guys went to war! Cutter coming from ‘Toe The Line’ Fighting Championship had a tough opponent ahead of him in Francesco Ricchi. Cutter looked better early in the fight connecting the best punches and knocking Richhi down. It was a battle however, both fighters were connecting significant punches and scoring, Cutter getting the best shots in. It was in the third round that Ricchi finally found his distance, Cutter still landed good punches as they exchanged but a right straight punch from Ricchi knocked Cutter down. He was not able to get back up and the ref ruled a 3rd round TKO win for Ricchi. After the fight we learned that Ricchi was punched in the throat and had a hard time breathing throughout the fight. Later on Ricchi was taken to the hospital - according to reports, Ricchi suffered bleeding in his lungs from a trache hematoma after sustaining an accidental throat punch. He is now in a medically induced coma following complications. Our prayers are still with Francesco Ricchi.

Britain Hart vs Randine Eckholm

Britain Hart vs Randine Eckholm was another great fight for the fans, the ladies put on a show for Miami. Eckholm disappointed her fans though as she could not find an answer to Hart’s game plan. Hart’s boxing was very dynamic, having full control of the ring and mixing the punches upstairs and downstairs Hart dominated her opponent and earned her first BKFC win. After the fight Hart took the stage to call out Paige Vanzant who was present at the event - “I’m going to keep it short, You’re f****** next!” Vanzant walked on to the ring as both fighters exchanged a few words. Hart will welcome Vanzant into BKFC on the February card, it should be another treat for the fans!

Jake Bostwick vs Tyler Vogel

This was another fight that made history in BKFC. Jake Bostwick vs Tyler Vogel fought not 5 but 6 rounds to a decision in Bostwick’s favor. I have seen this fight a few other times after coming home from the event and it’s just so hard to score it but here is my opinion: If you score the first five rounds, round by round and count the knockdown by Bostwick (which in my opinion was not a knockdown, Vogel took a punch to the shoulder) then this fight is a draw, 47 - 47. If that was not ruled a knockdown then Vogel wins the fight 48 - 47. That’s just my opinion.

Bostwick looked sharp early in the fight, he knocked Vogel down and was dangerous, always looking for the right overhand punch. Bostwick won the first two rounds IMO. Vogel however found his rhythm, used the jab and his size advantage effectively to avoid the right overhand and keep his opponent away and frustrated. It seemed like Bostwick was not able to find his distance and connect good punches after Vogel had figured out his game. Vogel IMO won the last three rounds. After the fight I believe there was a draw on the card and in order to please the crowd the commissioners agreed to go to a 6th round! Yes, to the fans that is very exciting but it could be risky for the organization to be doing such things. The 6th round was just not decisive, I honestly don’t know who won that round. Fans and the organizers were expecting a decisive 6th round to declare a winner but that just didn’t happen. There was also a 3-5 minute delay to start the 6th round, visibly cooling off the fighters as they awaited a decision. Bostwick was declared the winner after a pragmatic 6th round, Vogel clearly upset, disagreed with the decision. It would be great to have these guys do it again! Vogel is ready to return to action at BKFC 15 in Biloxi, MS. Bostwick was recently called out by Julian Lane on instagram; We would love to see that fight go down!

Luis Palomino vs Jim Alers

Luis Palomino proved why he is the 155lbs undisputed lightweight champion knocking Jim Alers out in the first minute of the first round. There was plenty of smack talk before this fight from both sides but things didn’t look the same inside the squared circle. Alers had defeated his previous opponents using the same strategy, pushing forward early in the fight using the clinch and landing uppercuts. He was very successful doing so but this strategy might have been the reason he lost the fight so quickly. Pushing forward and looking to knock out Palomino early in the fight was just not a good idea as Palomino landed very e

ffective jabs as Alers pushed the pace. Alers kept coming forward but was countered with a jab every time, until it was Palomino’s time to come forward and throw punches of his own. Palomino rocked Alers with a beautiful combination ending with a right hand and knocking Alers down. Palomino smelled blood, the crow

d was rowdy and Alers had a hard time getting back to his feet which he did. The champ wasted no time and again pinned Alers against the ropes, threw another combination ending with a brutal right hand knocking Alers down once again, this time he did not get up. It was a quick fight and Luis Palomino proved that he is the best 155lbs BKFC fighter. We look forward to seeing Alers back in action soon, he is still one of the best fighters inside the organization. Palomino seems to be looking for money fights and likes the idea of a fight against Paulie Malignaggi.
